School Director

Duties & Qualifications

About New Dimensions School

New Dimensions School (NDS) is a K–8 public charter school committed to providing a high-quality, community-centered education. Our programs blend rigorous academics with enrichment, social-emotional learning, and real-world opportunity — including signature initiatives in academic enrichment, student wellness, and community-based partnerships. We are a school that knows who we are and is seeking leadership to match that identity.

The Opportunity

NDS is seeking a School Director who can lead from the front: building a culture of accountability and trust, stewarding the school’s financial health, and serving as the visible, trusted face of the school in the broader community. This is a leadership role for someone ready to establish clear standards, build strong systems, and create the kind of school environment where every staff member is supported, every student is seen, and every family knows this school is working for them.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Leadership

  • Set and maintain high academic standards across K–8, including curriculum consistency and instructional quality

  • Supervise and evaluate all instructional staff with rigor and fairness; make personnel decisions that reflect the school’s commitment to students

  • Ensure full compliance with federal requirements including 504 plans, IEPs, Title IX protocols, and mandatory reporting obligations

  • Steward and grow signature academic programs and external educational partnerships

Staff Leadership and Culture

  • Build a culture of fair, consistent accountability where expectations are clear and applied equally across all staff

  • Recruit, develop, supervise, and evaluate all staff; conduct meaningful annual reviews and make contract decisions that reflect performance

  • Establish and maintain a clear, school-wide chain of command

  • Protect the confidentiality of all personnel and student information at all levels of administration

  • Design and implement professional development tied to school priorities and individual staff growth

Operational and Financial Stewardship

  • Manage day-to-day school operations including scheduling, enrollment, and facilities

  • Develop and administer the annual budget in partnership with the board; identify financial risks proactively and recommend mitigation strategies

  • Maintain full compliance with NC charter school law, DPI requirements, and charter renewal standards

  • Support grant administration and development efforts in partnership with the board’s development committee

Board Partnership and Governance

  • Report to the Board of Directors with transparency, timeliness, and completeness

  • Execute board-approved strategic priorities and policies within clearly defined scope

  • Bring decisions that require board authority to the board; exercise delegated authority within its defined limits

  • Participate in board and committee meetings as a non-voting administrative resource

  • Effectively communicate Board vision, goals, priorities, and decisions to staff, students, families & broader school community

Community and Family Engagement

  • Serve as the primary external face of NDS to families, prospective families, and the broader community

  • Maintain open, honest, and timely communication with families regarding school matters

  • Drive enrollment growth through authentic community relationships and visibility

  • Build and steward partnerships with external organizations, funders, and community leaders

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field

  • NC Administrator Licensure (current or eligibility to obtain)

  • Minimum five years of K–12 experience, including at least two in a formal leadership role

  • Demonstrated track record of fair, consistent staff evaluation and personnel accountability

  • Experience managing school or organizational budgets and financial reporting

  • Working knowledge of NC charter school law and DPI compliance requirements

Preferred

  • Experience in a K–8 or charter school setting

  • Experience with grant-funded programs and external development

  • Demonstrated success in culture-building following a period of organizational change

  • Familiarity with NC Charter School Alliance resources and peer community
